Enjoying something
Mother Nature created is a pleasure in itself, but when you have
the ability to enhance it, then it is something to be treasured
for a lifetime.
Located just one hour north of Toronto there is a widely kept secret
just waiting to be discovered; one of Southern Ontario’s
premier ski and country clubs. The Heights of Horseshoe is Canada’s
first equity owned private member ski and country club.
The Heights, which began in 1989, is located on 102 acres of land
and is home to 27 private runs ranging from green to double black
diamond which can be enjoyed during the day. Rumor has it that the
original owner of the property acquired it after doing some extensive
studies over a four year period. He encompassed the help of hundreds
of farmers across the province and had them measure and record the
snow that fell, the dates and duration in which it stayed on the
ground. After this long study he came to the conclusion that the
best snow in Ontario was in a little town named Hungry Hollow. Once
the property was purchased he went for a stroll one day and stood
atop a hill looking out over his newly acclaimed land with a thought
in mind, he needed something to call this vast land. As he peered
out over the hills with the lush forests and green spanning across
a valley of land he realized there was shape and form that was familiar
to him…a horseshoe. With this thought a community was born
Horseshoe Valley. The valley’s picturesque settings and rolling
hills determined its destiny, the fabulous downhill sport we have
all come to love.
Many people have enjoyed what Mother Nature has provided for us
here at the Heights. The memories that have been shared and continue
to be created within families’ generation after generation
speak for itself. However, we understand that some need to see to
believe.
